So, you drive to Ringwood, NJ, getting a little confused on the back roads but you end up at this house on the lake. It's still 90 degrees at 6pm. You're walking towards #247 and can hear some music, you pass the bus, head down the steps onto the back porch where you walk right into this guys living room where you encounter 5 sweaty musicians and about 75 people in chairs, draped on the stairwell and peeking out of the kitchen.
Drews house is a cool place to catch a show, overlooks the lake and everyone shares what they've brought from adult beverages to chips and dip. It's kind of like Levons Ramble execpt a lot less expensive.
The Felice Brothers are a hardworking bunch of Catskill Mountain boys with a fun backstory, they make the legend work.
James Felice on accordian & vocals, Simone Felice drums & vocals, Ian Felice, vocals & guitar ( he seems to be the writer of most of the songs though they all share credit) Christmas on bass and Greg Farley on vocals, fiddle & washboard, he also seems to be in charge of ramping up the energy. These are a nice bunch of young guys that "get" it.
They did about an 80 minute set, mostly thier standards. Radio Song (Simone & Ian switch instruments with Simone taking the vocal too) Frankies Gun, Ruby Mae, Helen Fry and some new ones, Cincinatti Queen, St Stephans End was haunting. As always, they were very generous with thier time after the show before the bus rolled south to the Rams Head for thier next gig. They'll be at Clearwater and the All Points West festivals. Go see this band!
