10th anniversary of Rosko's death

Postby jay rosen » Thu Jul 29, 2010 7:52 pm

This Sunday marks the 10th Anniversary of Bill "Rosko" Mercer's death.

Richard Neer did the last interview with Rosko for his book "FM: The Rise and Fall of Rock Radio." Sadly, Bill died 6 weeks later.

In commemoration, Richard and Michael Harrison (of Talkers' Magazine) have put together a podcast including reminiscences and the audio of the 2000 interview, never released until now.

The website is below. Take a listen!

Interesting to listen to........certainly a little bit self-serving by Richard Neer & Mike Harrison. Fun nonetheless.

Here's the piece that Pete often plays--Rosko's amazing reading of Pete Hamill's column about the Vietnam War:

Oh, my freakin' God! Rosko singing along with Lee Michaels' "Heighty Hi" that I often mention and his resignation from WNEW-FM. "Until forever, remember, this is Rosko and I sure love you so." Oh, God, I just wanna cry!
