Buster Bailey, Charlie Teagarden, "Summertime" Hits of 1915-1935.

ImageI should have mentioned this sooner: Today is Harriet Hilliard Nelson's birthday and two days ago was
Ginger Rogers' birthday. They would have turned 101 and 99, respectively.

I'm astounded by people who want to "know'" the universe when it's hard enough to find your way around Chinatown.

Of course it's going to be OK. It'll be "LIVE". And it will be Rich!

Hey Rich!
FYI: next weekend is the annual Bix Fest in Davenport, Ia.

BB fans Leah, Sir Scratchy, Bill Hoffman, Andy and Sue Senior, Bob and Cheryl from Chicago will be there as witnesses.

Wish you were there!

Sorry, Wheezer, much as I'd love to go, I won't be at the Bix this year, except in spirit. And you can't hear the music in spirit. It'll be a great show, with many of my favorite musicians, but it's just too far from my summer place in far northern New York State.

Enjoy the festival--I'll miss you guys.

We had reservations and really looked forward to it, but we decided that, owing to health and housekeeping considerations, traveling would have been impossible this year. (My health is good, but I've had to radically alter my diet--and I can no longer eat what is served in most restaurants.) Also, we have to clean out and set up my record room, and otherwise get rid of a ton of things we don't need. Daily trips to the Salvation Army are a necessity.

I'll definitely be in better shape next year for the Davenport fest. We'll miss seeing everyone this week--but we'll be there in spirit!

Hello fellow BBB pals! I will miss Bill and Andy at Davenport this year. But West End JB has been "promised" a spot at next year's fest. Maybe 2011? The sets in Davenport are at various times and locations at about an hour and a half apart, so it can be difficult to get together. If anything is up, please let me know by leaving a message for me at the Clarion.

Better yet, why don't you all come on the Hudson Lake train excursion May 1st? We would be less scattered that way.

I'm in for May 2011. In the meantime, there's always the next "Big Broadcast Rent Party" on October 20.

BTW, CJ and I will be seeing the WEJB at the Portage next Friday.
Chicago Silent Film Society is kicking off it's Silent Summer fest. The West End Jazz Band is playing opening night.
I can think of no better way to spend a summer eve than at the Portage theater.... except for visiting White Castles afterwards for a 'nightcap'.
C U then!
