Leah, whose quote are you referring to?

This:
When most others crooned, I felt like they were the most desirable men in the world.
When Rudy Vallée crooned, I felt like I was the most desirable woman in the world.

I made it up. :D Part of the way, anyway...

In a very old version of How To Win Friends And Influence People, a true anecdote was told;
I paraphrase:
A woman of very high society was looking for a marriage partner and she was introduced to two handsome suitors of very high society. She decided to marry the second one. When she was asked why she chose him, she privately replied:

When I was with the first suitor, at evening end, I felt like he was the most interesting man in the world.
When I was with the second suitor, at evening end, I felt like I was the most interesting woman in the world.

Looking forward to Bob Crosby tunes tonight!

I'd always wondered why (the real reason) he did not continue with his singing career and maybe audition for Hollywood musicals.

If your brother were Bing Crosby, would you audition for a movie musical as a singing lead? Hollywood is a tough town and he'd have to have an ego as strong as the rock of Gibralter to go through with that. Besides, his band gig was pretty successful.

It wouldn't have been surprising if a rival studio to Bing's Paramount had tried to sign Bob. But Bob's fortunes seem tied to his brother. Bing records "Please" with Anson Weeks, who then signs Bob. Bing's buddies the Dorsey Brothers hire him. And both the Dorseys and Crosby band are with Bing's record label, Decca. Bing records "You Must Have Been a Beautiful Baby" in 1938, and some of the "Holiday Inn" songs four years later, with Bob. Later in the 1940s, Bob is Bing's summer replacement on the "Kraft Music Hall."

Of the three (I think) recordings of Manhattan Mary I have heard, the Whiteman is my favorite. It has a forward drive that I like. And that drummer makes it kind of wild.

Only heard the Cass Hagan yesterday. I keep an eye out for "new" versions on record auctions.

I adore Nick Lucas' banjo- and guitar playing. His falsetto vocals... don't quite do it for me.

I like Lucas. Wonderful guitarist with a pleasing voice. He had his own sound, and seemed unaffected by newer singing styles. And Mary dug him.
